The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on the 27th that, starting this year, the first week of July will be designated as ‘Korea Lighthouse Week’ every year to coincide with ‘World Lighthouse Day (July 1).’ Various cultural events will be held nationwide during this period. ‘World Lighthouse Day’ was established to widely inform the public about the importance of lighthouses for ship safety and their value as marine tourism assets.

In particular, to address the issue that previous ‘World Lighthouse Day’ commemorative events were held at unspecified times in different regions, dispersing public participation and interest, various cultural events will be concentrated during ‘Korea Lighthouse Week.’ Detailed information about the event schedule can be found on the National Lighthouse Museum website ‘Sea and Lighthouse.’

Additionally, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization will introduce ‘Korea Lighthouse Week,’ the ‘Lighthouse Stamp Tour,’ and information on major lighthouses near the Korea Dullegil trail on the Durunubi website, and will hold the ‘Korea Dullegil Lighthouse Course Visit Event’ throughout July.

Participants in the event can receive various gifts through a lottery by verifying their walking on the Korea Dullegil trail and lighthouse visits using the Durunubi application and the ‘Lighthouse Stamp Tour’ passport. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to provide lighthouse accommodation vouchers and other prizes to the winners.

Yoo In-chon, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, “We will continue to actively discover and promote content in collaboration with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries so that the public can enjoy various tourism experiences related to fishing villages and marine culture.”

Kang Do-hyung, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, said, “We look forward to the active participation of the public in lighthouse cultural events held nationwide during ‘Korea Lighthouse Week.’ We will continue to expand cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism so that the public can enjoy marine culture even more.”
