Topic: 'AI Native Company'
Kakao announced that it will hold an in-house hackathon, '2024 24K,' for 1 night and 2 days starting from the 27th at its AI campus. This hackathon is prepared as a process to propose and implement various ideas so that Kakao can transform into an 'AI native company.'
Kakao's in-house hackathon began in 2013 and is now in its 6th edition. It is a communication platform where one can glimpse Kakao's working methods and culture. The term 'hackathon' is a combination of 'hacking' and 'marathon,' referring to a process where developers and service planners gather in one place to solve specific themes. '24K' stands for '24 hours for Krew.' Kakao crew members from various fields such as development, design, and planning participate individually or in teams to implement their ideas as prototypes.
This year, 50 teams and over 170 participants took part. Winners will be selected through preliminary and final judging rounds.
In line with the theme, this year's event is held at the 'Kakao AI Campus' located in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. The Kakao AI Campus is a space created under the theme of 'a growth space for talents with infinite possibilities in the AI era.' It is used as a growth culture space for Kakao and its affiliates' crew members for workshops, conferences, and more. Kakao has embedded four core values into the space: ▲ preparing for a new future ▲ open to everyone ▲ growing together ▲ spreading good technology for the world.
Jung Kyu-don, Kakao's Chief Technology Officer (CTO), said, "This 24K is planned to allow creative ideas related to AI to be proposed and materialized without being confined to a specific field," adding, "I hope it becomes a place where crew members can momentarily step away from work, enjoy the joy of development, and communicate with each other in the meaningful space of the AI campus."
