Samsung Changwon Hospital Selected for Service Robot Pilot Project ... Robots to Automatically Supply Ward Items

Reducing Workload for Medical Staff Through Smart Logistics Innovation
Securing More Time to Focus on Patient Care

Sungkyunkwan University Samsung Changwon Hospital has been selected for the '2024 Service Robot Demonstration Project' organized by the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement.

Samsung Changwon Hospital Selected for Service Robot Pilot Project ... Robots to Automatically Supply Ward Items Samsung Changwon Hospital.

Samsung Changwon Hospital, in collaboration with the smart logistics robot specialist Studio3S Korea and UNS Networks, will implement the project titled 'Demonstration of a Smart Robot Logistics Model for Regional Hospitals Using Large-Scale Logistics Transport Robots' for approximately seven months from this month until December.

The goal of this demonstration project is to improve and expand processes by establishing a robot logistics system optimized for medium-sized medical institutions. By utilizing the robot logistics system, the hospital aims to enhance the efficiency of delivery, storage, and inventory management of supplies needed in wards, thus minimizing the workload of medical staff and securing more time to focus on patient care.

To this end, Samsung Changwon Hospital will conduct the demonstration by establishing logistics transport robots, cart-type supply storage, and a smart integrated control center. The robots will transport carts containing medical supplies such as syringes, bandages, and gauze to the wards and collect empty carts from the wards. To minimize inconvenience for patients and visitors, the system will operate only during nighttime hours.

Kang Yeonho, Administrative Director of Samsung Changwon Hospital, who is in charge of the robot logistics innovation project, stated, "As logistics innovation through robots is accelerating in various industrial fields, being selected for this project is expected to provide a foundation for the establishment and advancement of a robot logistics model optimized for medium-sized medical institutions and its further expansion."

Meanwhile, the Service Robot Demonstration Project is designed to verify the commercialization potential of robots in the pre-commercialization stage by demonstrating them at demand sites to create domestic and international robot markets. Demand institutions and robot supply companies form a consortium to participate in the project.
