Asia Economy Seoul Future Forum - Yongsan Future Congratulatory Address
Yongsan, Once a Hub but Development Repeatedly Stalled
Changes Including International Business District, Improvements in Transportation and Residential Environment
"Yongsan has transformed into a dynamic space performing various functions such as economy, culture, arts, industry, and housing, following its emergence as the political center due to the relocation of the presidential office."
On the 26th, Kwon Young-se, a member of the People Power Party, stated this in a congratulatory speech at the '2024 Seoul Future Forum' hosted by Asia Economy at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, under the theme of 'The Future of Yongsan.'

Kwon, a five-term lawmaker from Yongsan, was consecutively elected as the district representative for Yongsan-gu in the 21st and 22nd general elections. He explained, "Our Yongsan is located in the heart of Seoul and has historically been the center of economy, transportation, and culture. Due to Yongsan's high value and development potential, there have been many attempts for development, but there were many twists and turns such as delays in the relocation of the US military base and development failures caused by the global financial crisis."
He added, "Yongsan is now facing a period of significant change. The Yongsan International Business District, which had been stagnant, has made a fresh start, and Yongsan Park has returned to the people beginning with the opening of the children's garden."
He also emphasized, "With the enactment of the special law on railroad undergrounding, the foundation to connect the previously disconnected Yongsan has been established. Transportation infrastructure such as GTX (Great Train Express) and the Shinbundang Line is being expanded, and housing environment improvement projects are being vigorously promoted due to deregulation."
However, he noted, "There is a major difficulty in development due to height restrictions connected to Namsan. I would respect Mayor Oh Se-hoon even more if he makes efforts to ease the height restrictions in Yongsan."
