National Integration Committee to Propose Improvement Directions for Migrant Workers' Workplace Safety

Statement from the Special Committee for Coexistence with Migrant Workers

The Presidential Committee for National Unity expressed deep condolences on the 26th regarding the recent fire at a lithium primary battery manufacturing plant located in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, which resulted in casualties, stating, "We will focus on preparing alternatives to ensure the safety of migrant workers' working environments and present improvement directions."

The 'Special Committee for Coexistence with Migrant Workers' within the Unity Committee emphasized in a press release on the same day, "Most of the casualties from this fire were migrant workers," adding, "This incident serves as a reminder for all of us to reaffirm the importance of industrial safety and to make every effort to prevent similar accidents from recurring."

The Special Committee said, "We pray for the souls of those who lost their lives in this unfortunate accident and wish a speedy recovery to those injured," and "We also extend our deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in this tragic accident."

They continued, "Since the industrial workplace environment and accident prevention relate not only to migrant workers but also to the life and health of all our citizens, efforts must be made to prevent recurrence of such accidents," adding, "Once again, we pray for the souls of those who passed away in the accident and offer deep condolences and comfort to the bereaved families."

The Presidential Committee for National Unity has been operating the 'Special Committee for Coexistence with Migrant Workers (Chairman Kim Seok-ho)' since March, discussing policy alternatives to improve the working environment (safety) of migrant workers and the residential conditions in local communities.
