Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 26th that it is recruiting households to participate in the ‘Second Half Hope House Repair’ project to improve the living environment of low-income families.

The ‘Hope House Repair’ project supports repair costs such as wallpapering, flooring, and window repairs for low-income households with poor living conditions who cannot afford house repairs. Eligible applicants are households with an income below 60% of the median income, and both homeowners (residents of the house) and tenants can apply.

However, if there are many applications, priority will be given to semi-basement households and emergency households recommended by the district office. Homeowner households with income below 48% of the median income (eligible for repair and maintenance benefits), public rental housing, and households that have received Hope House Repair benefits within the last two years are excluded from support. Additionally, only cases classified as ‘housing’ under the Housing Act are eligible; quasi-housing such as goshiwon (small dormitory-style rooms) or unauthorized buildings cannot apply.

The support items include a total of 18 types, ranging from simple house repairs such as wallpapering, flooring, insulation, and mold removal to safety facility installations such as fire, flood, and gas leak alarms. The maximum support amount is up to 2.5 million KRW per household. For semi-basement houses, facilities to prepare for flooding such as flood alarms, flood barriers, and ventilators can also be installed.

Applicants can visit their local community service center from July 1 to July 31 to submit the application form and required documents. Afterwards, the district office will submit the list of applicants to Seoul City in August, and the city will conduct a review to select the final target households. Support is expected to begin in earnest as early as September.

Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “I hope the Hope House Repair project will help residents who endure inconvenience due to financial burdens,” and added, “We will continue to strive to improve the quality of life for low-income families in housing welfare blind spots and to create a safe and comfortable living environment.”

Meanwhile, a total of 43 households in Gangseo-gu received house repair support through this project in the first half of the year. In the second half, Seoul City will support a total of 320 households, with distribution based on the number of applications from autonomous districts.
