The First Rest Area Made of Cypress Trees in a Seoul Autonomous District
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) has renovated the rest area for environmental officers. The existing rest area, made from containers, has been newly furnished using eco-friendly cypress wood.
On June 24, the district held an opening ceremony for the environmental officers' rest area, "Dobong Hujeong (休亭)," and officially began its operation.
"Dobong Hujeong" is the first environmental officers' rest area in a Seoul autonomous district constructed with eco-friendly cypress wood.
While container structures are vulnerable to heat and cold, "Dobong Hujeong," made from cypress wood, is resistant to temperature changes and is expected to provide a comfortable resting place for environmental officers.
Additionally, the phytoncides emitted from the cypress wood are anticipated to help environmental officers recover from fatigue.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, "I would like to express my gratitude to the environmental officers who quietly work on the front lines to create a clean Dobong-gu. I hope 'Dobong Hujeong' becomes a comfortable resting place for environmental officers exhausted from their demanding duties."
Besides renovating the environmental officers' rest area, the district is making many efforts to improve their working conditions.
To prepare for safety accidents during work, protective gear such as safety helmets, work shoes, and gloves are replaced with new ones every six months, and functional T-shirts and other work uniforms are provided for comfortable work during winter and summer.
Furthermore, to boost morale and unity among environmental officers, domestic and international cultural excursion programs and sports competitions are being conducted.
