Song Miryeong, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, visited the Daehan Sugar Incheon Sugar Factory on the 25th to listen to the difficulties faced by the sugar industry, check the price trends of sugar, an essential ingredient used in the food and dining sectors, and discuss cooperation measures with the sugar industry for price stabilization.
At the meeting, a Daehan Sugar official stated, "Due to the rise in international raw sugar prices last year, the high-priced stock purchased has not yet been depleted," and added, "Additionally, the burden of management costs is increasing due to rising labor and energy costs," conveying the industry's difficulties.
In response, Minister Song said, "The government is making efforts to alleviate the management burden of the sugar industry, such as extending the raw sugar tariff quota (from 3% to 0%) that was scheduled to apply until June this year through the end of the year," and requested, "Since the international price of raw sugar has shown a downward stabilization trend after reaching its peak in November last year, please cooperate so that the decline in international raw sugar prices can be reflected in domestic product prices."
