3-term Choi Ho-jeong, Seoul Metropolitan Council Member, Elected Chairperson for the Second Half of the 11th Council Starting July 1... Vice Chairpersons Elected: Lee Jong-hwan of People Power Party, Kim In-je of Democratic Party
Choi Ho-jung, a three-term member of the People Power Party representing Seocho 4, was elected as the chairperson of the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council's second half, starting his term on July 1.
On the afternoon of the 25th, during the 4th plenary session of the 324th regular meeting, the Seoul Metropolitan Council held the chairperson election. Out of 111 total council members, 105 voted, and Choi was elected chairperson with 96 votes.
Newly elected Chairperson Choi was first elected to the 8th Seoul Metropolitan Council in 2010 and has served three terms through the 9th and 11th councils. He is the second longest-serving member of the People Power Party after the current Chairperson Kim Hyun-ki, who is serving his fourth term.
Choi was selected as the candidate for the second half chairperson after receiving the highest number of votes in the People Power Party caucus on the 19th, competing against Vice Chairperson Nam Chang-jin and Transportation Committee Chairperson Park Jung-hwa.
Chairperson Choi stated that he will stay close to the citizens so that the council can be a place for citizens to rely on in difficult times.
Meanwhile, Chairperson Choi is the daughter of Choi Si-jung, former Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission and a close aide during former President Lee Myung-bak’s administration.
