Seongbuk-gu Commemorates 2024 Caregivers' Day... Awards Presented to 30 Recipients

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) held the "2024 Caregivers' Day Commemoration Event" grandly on the 24th at Sungshin Women's University CGV in celebration of Caregivers' Day on July 1st.

This event, held for the second time this year, was conducted to encourage the hard work and dedication of about 5,700 caregivers in Seongbuk-gu and to boost their pride. In the first part, a commendation ceremony was held to award certificates of appreciation from the mayor to 30 caregivers who have contributed to elderly welfare. In the second part, a movie viewing event was held to provide a break and support cultural activities for caregivers exhausted from emotional labor.

The event was also graced by key figures working on the front lines to improve caregivers' rights, including Kim Hwasu, President of the Seoul Caregivers Association Seongbuk Branch, Lee Seong-ja, Vice President of the Northeast District, and Kim Ji-yeon, Director of the Northeast Elderly Care Worker Support Center.

Mayor Lee Seung-ro stated, “Caregivers carry a responsibility beyond simply providing care, playing a major protective role in the unseen areas of our society. We are preparing a healing camp program in the second half of the year to relieve caregivers' fatigue. We will do our best to create an environment where all caregivers can work happily and energetically in Seongbuk-gu.”

In addition to the commemorative event, the district is also conducting an awareness campaign titled "Ajumma? NO! Care Expert, Caregiver" in honor of Caregivers' Day. Caregivers are ‘professionals with nationally certified qualifications’ who care for our parents and families and ensure safety in old age. Through this campaign, Seongbuk-gu hopes to encourage reflection on the role and importance of caregivers and become a community where care work is respected.
