9th Daejeon City Council First Half Legislative Activities: "Quantitative and Qualitative Growth" Daejeon City Council plenary session / Daejeon City Council

The number of ordinances processed during the first half of the 9th Daejeon City Council significantly increased compared to the 8th council, marking both quantitative and qualitative growth.

According to the city council on the 25th, the 9th council processed 418 ordinances, 101 more than the 317 ordinances handled by the 8th council, representing a 31.8% increase.

The city council continuously established ordinances promoting future industries by leveraging regional characteristics such as the Daedeok Research and Development Special Zone. Representative examples include the "Daejeon City Ordinance for the Promotion and Support of the Space Industry," the "Daejeon City Ordinance for the Promotion and Support of the Quantum Industry," and the "Daejeon City Ordinance for the Promotion and Support of the Semiconductor Industry."

Efforts were also focused on creating ordinances to revitalize the Daejeon regional economy, which has a high proportion of service industries. The "Daejeon City Ordinance for the Activation of Night Tourism" is evaluated to have contributed to boosting the impact of Daejeon's representative festivals, such as the Daejeon Midnight Festival, thereby promoting the city's tourism industry.

The council took the lead in preparing ordinances to swiftly respond to social changes. The "Daejeon City Ordinance for Improving the Culture of Using Narcotic Product Names" aims to prevent the misuse of narcotic-related terms as product names amid the rising social issue of drugs, thereby protecting citizens from harm.

Efforts were also made to eliminate welfare blind spots. The complete revision of the "Daejeon City Ordinance for Supporting Single-Person Households" specified household surveys and efforts to reflect findings in city administration, improving the formulation of support policies tailored to the characteristics of each household.

The "Daejeon City Ordinance for Supporting Multi-Child Families" expanded the definition of multi-child families to two or more children, supporting child-rearing in the era of low birth rates.

Lee Sang-rae, chairman of the Daejeon City Council, stated, "The legislative activities of the 9th Daejeon City Council during the first half showed vigorous growth both quantitatively and qualitatively," adding, "This is the result of efforts to institutionally incorporate the rapidly changing social structure and the diverse voices of citizens."
