Lotte Mart and Supermarkets Introduce Native Chicken from Exclusive Farms

Collaboration with Harim... Certified 'Clean Livestock Farm'

Livestock MD Participates in Entire Rearing and Production Process

Lotte Mart and Super, operated by Lotte Shopping, announced on the 26th that they will launch two new products, 'Clean Farm Native Chicken / Chicken Stew', in collaboration with the chicken specialist company Harim on the 27th.

These new products use chickens raised on farms certified as 'Clean Livestock Farms'. Lotte Mart and Super supply chicks to the farms and outsource the raising process. Once the chickens mature, Harim processes them, and the products are sold at Lotte Mart and Super in a collaborative production structure.

To offer healthy chicken meat for the upcoming Boknal (the hottest days of summer), Lotte Mart and Super have been preparing outsourced raising in partnership with Harim since last October.

Lotte Mart emphasized that the new outsourced native chicken products are managed throughout the entire raising and production process by the responsible merchandise planner (MD), who personally raised the chickens. Unlike the previous method of receiving commercialized quantities through partners, the MD directly participated in the entire process through the outsourced raising method, including selecting exclusive farms, purchasing chicks, choosing feed, and monitoring growth.

In fact, the responsible MD commuted weekly to the exclusive farm located in Jeongeup, Jeonbuk, managing the poultry house and keeping a rearing diary. The feed was carefully selected to keep the chickens healthy, including adding high-quality probiotics that strengthen the chickens’ organs.

The 'Lee Chung-hwan Farm', selected as Lotte Mart’s exclusive farm, is certified as a 'Clean Livestock Farm' by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. The Clean Livestock Farm certification is granted to farms that thoroughly manage poultry houses, including maintaining a pleasant surrounding environment, controlling rearing density, and handling manure properly, ensuring the production of safe livestock products. Chickens raised in a clean environment have a low mortality rate and high feed efficiency, resulting in significant production cost savings.

Additionally, by contracting the exclusive farm to ship the entire farm output collectively, transportation cost savings were also achieved. Through this, Lotte Mart explained that the new product will be offered at a price up to about 20% cheaper than existing native chicken products. Lotte Mart expects the reasonably priced Clean Farm native chicken to gain popularity in July, coinciding with the upcoming Boknal.

Hong Seung-hee, MD of the Livestock Team at Lotte Mart and Super, said, "I personally managed many aspects, visiting the farm weekly to maintain the poultry house environment and check the rearing status, thinking as if feeding my own child. I hope everyone enjoys the healthy native chicken for the upcoming Boknal, and we will continue to strive to offer healthy, high-quality food at affordable prices."
