LG StandbyME Selects Trending Actor Byeon Woo-seok as Advertising Model

LG Electronics announced that it has selected actor and model Byeon Woo-seok, who rose to fame with the drama ‘Seonjae Upgo Twieo,’ as the advertising model for its wireless portable lifestyle screen ‘LG StanbyME.’


On the 24th, LG Electronics released a teaser video titled ‘Byeon Woo-seok is also a StanbyME lover’ through its official SNS channels. The video serves as a pre-promotion for the ‘StanbyME Time’ event scheduled for August 19 and conveyed the news that fans can meet actor Byeon Woo-seok in person at ‘Ground220,’ a Gen Z experience space set up by LG Electronics in Yangpyeong-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, sparking great anticipation among many StanbyME lovers. The video quickly spread across various SNS and online communities within a day of its release, garnering over 1,700 comments and receiving a warm response.


The released video includes a segment from an interview with Cosmopolitan Korea in April last year, where Byeon Woo-seok directly mentioned ‘LG StanbyME’ as his true soulmate. Byeon Woo-seok revealed that he regularly uses the LG StanbyME to watch various movies and dramas, showing his fondness for the product.


LG Electronics will hold the ‘StanbyME Lover Event’ on its official Instagram channel from June 24 to July 19. Participants can join the event by watching the teaser video and leaving questions for Byeon Woo-seok in the comments. Additionally, the LG Electronics online brand shop will run the ‘Byeon Woo-seok X StanbyME Time’ purchase certification event from July 8 to August 9.


Meanwhile, LG StanbyME, launched in 2021, gained fame as a sold-out item for over six months and opened a new category in the market as a lifestyle screen. Even after about three years since its release, it continues to enjoy steady popularity with positive responses from many consumers.


In the first quarter of this year alone, LG StanbyME recorded approximately 60,000 units sold globally, which exceeds half of last year’s total sales. The average monthly sales also more than doubled compared to the previous year. Although it is still considered a niche market in terms of market share, it attracts steady attention due to its younger main customer base compared to traditional TV products and its sustained popularity despite the long time since its launch.


Recently, LG Electronics released an upgraded version of StanbyME, enhancing user experience and functionality. The upgraded StanbyME supports both Dolby’s video technology ‘Dolby Vision’ and immersive audio technology ‘Dolby Atmos,’ providing an immersive viewing experience in any space. Furthermore, the dedicated remote control’s volume and weight were reduced by approximately 52% and 25%, respectively, making it convenient to hold in one hand, and a magnet was applied to allow easy storage on the top of the screen.
