Overseas Travel Operates to 5 Countries Including Southeast Asia, China, Mongolia from Muan International Airport
New Regular Flights to Hangzhou, China and Vientiane, Laos Scheduled for Second Half of the Year
On the 25th, Muan County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced that the number of passengers using Muan International Airport exceeded 200,000 as of the 23rd.
Muan International Airport aims to serve 500,000 passengers this year, and it is expected to achieve this target smoothly.
In 2023, the airport had about 246,000 passengers, but this year, the number exceeded 200,000 in the first half alone, marking a 105.3% increase compared to the same period last year.
The surge in passengers is attributed to the efforts of Muan County and Jeollanam-do, which have led to the operation of various international flights.
Currently, Jeju Air operates regular flights twice a week to Yanji, China, and Jin Air operates regular flights twice a week to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, as well as flights twice a week to Da Nang, Vietnam, and every four days to Nha Trang. In addition, various charter flights operate to destinations such as Zhangjiajie, China (twice a week).
Furthermore, in the second half of the year, new regular flights to Hangzhou, China, and Vientiane, Laos, are scheduled to commence.
Muan County plans to change its support criteria for airlines operating regular international flights by shifting from operating loss compensation to operation incentive funds that provide practical assistance for new, resumed, and increased regular international flights, in order to attract various international regular flights.
Seo Myeong-ho, Director of Future Growth, stated, “The operation and activation agreements of regular flights by Jeju Air and Jin Air have greatly contributed to airport revitalization by expanding not only regular but also charter flights. We will actively support Muan International Airport to become a key airport in the southwestern region through close cooperation with Jeollanam-do and related organizations.”
