Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has been found to have a very high level of satisfaction among farmers regarding the Rural Workforce Brokerage Center it operates to help solve labor shortages in rural areas.
According to a satisfaction survey conducted from May to June targeting 139 farmers and farm workers participating in the Rural Workforce Brokerage Center, 82% of respondents (39% very satisfied, 43% satisfied), totaling 114 people, answered that they were "satisfied."
Gwangsan-gu was selected in a public contest by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and has been carrying out the Rural Workforce Brokerage Center support project in cooperation with Pyeongdong Nonghyup since 2021. The project involves recruiting laborers to work in rural areas, connecting them to farms in need of help, and providing transportation expenses and accident insurance to farm workers.
Starting this year, in addition to Pyeongdong Nonghyup, the center was also established at Donggok Nonghyup, operating a total of two locations.
In the first half of this year, the Pyeongdong Nonghyup Rural Workforce Brokerage Center arranged labor for 141 farms, and Donggok Nonghyup for 231 farms. The brokerage performance was recorded as 1,844 cases for Pyeongdong and 1,563 cases for Donggok.
In this satisfaction survey, the majority of farmers expressed satisfaction with being able to secure the necessary labor on their desired dates with just one phone call when they needed help. Satisfaction with the monthly training provided once a month to job seekers to improve their farming skills was also high at 72% (23% very satisfied, 49% satisfied).
Farm workers cited the opportunity to work as the reason for their satisfaction with the operation of the Rural Workforce Brokerage Center. Satisfaction with transportation expenses and allowances for farm workers was 76% (22% very satisfied, 54% satisfied).
A Gwangsan-gu official stated, “Based on the results of the satisfaction survey, we will strengthen the operation of the Rural Workforce Brokerage Center project and supplement any shortcomings. We will discover and promote various support measures to help local farms overcome difficulties caused by labor shortages and to increase rural-based job opportunities.”
