Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized that trade with Russia is a normal activity and opposed attempts to slander it.
According to China CCTV on the 24th, President Xi met with Polish President Andrzej Duda, who is on a state visit to Beijing's Great Hall of the People, and said, "China's position on the Ukraine situation remains unchanged in promoting peace talks and seeking a political solution." He stressed, "We oppose attempts by some parties to slander China and escalate conflicts under the pretext of normal trade between China and Russia."
He continued, "Efforts must be made to avoid the expansion and intensification of conflicts, ease the situation, and create conditions for peace talks," adding, "This aligns with the interests of the international community, including Europe." He also said, "China encourages and supports all efforts that help peaceful resolution and promotes the establishment of a balanced, effective, and sustainable European security system," and expressed willingness to continue playing a constructive role in the political resolution of the Ukraine crisis.
President Duda, entering the final year of his term, is attempting a pragmatic approach toward China but is affected by the war in Ukraine, which borders Poland. He stated, "Poland firmly adheres to the One-China principle and intends to continue promoting cooperation in jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative with China, deepening exchanges and cooperation in economic trade, agriculture, infrastructure, and human resources."
According to CCTV, after the meeting, China and Poland agreed to cooperate in various fields including trade, agriculture, digital economy, green industries, and clean energy. President Xi announced that China will open its market to Polish agricultural products and food and allow Polish citizens visa-free entry to China for 15 days.
Poland said it will strengthen multilateral communication and cooperation with China and promote further development of the comprehensive strategic partnership. As Poland is scheduled to hold the rotating presidency of the European Union next year, it will play a constructive role in promoting relations with China.
According to major foreign media, the two sides held talks for about four hours, including a one-hour private meeting. During the talks, Belarus, a Russian ally, explained in great detail its position on migration pressure at the Polish border and the need for European security and peace. President Xi listened to these views and reiterated that China desires a peaceful resolution.
