Gyeonggi-do Promotes Tree Doctors and Cracks Down on Tree Hospitals... Until July 31

Gyeonggi Province is stepping up efforts to crack down on tree hospitals and promote tree doctors. A tree doctor is a person who has completed education at a tree doctor training institution and obtained certification by passing the tree doctor exam conducted by the Korea Forest Service. The system was first introduced in 2018.

Gyeonggi Province announced that from the 25th of this month until the 31st of next month, it will carry out "promotion of the tree doctor system and crackdown on tree hospitals."

There are a total of 301 registered tree hospitals in Gyeonggi Province. Tree hospitals by region can be found on the Korea Forest Service’s "Forest Technology Information Integrated Management System (ftims.forest.go.kr)."

During this crackdown period, inspections will focus on tree hospitals registered in the management system, including ▲ cases where tree treatment was performed without obtaining qualifications such as a tree doctor license ▲ tree doctors employed at two or more tree hospitals simultaneously ▲ cases where tree hospital registration certificates were lent to others ▲ tree doctors who treated trees during a qualification suspension period.

Separately, Gyeonggi Province will also intensively crack down on unqualified businesses that provide tree treatment around residential areas such as apartment complexes and schools without registering as tree hospitals.

Additionally, Gyeonggi Province will promote the tree doctor system, which requires tree doctors to issue prescriptions when using pesticides during tree treatment, the registration standards for tree hospitals, and the appropriateness of tree treatment.

Seok Yong-hwan, Director of the Forest and Greenery Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through this promotion and crackdown activity, we will ensure that the tree doctor and hospital system can be stably established."
