Customer Brings 'Pet Lizard' to Sushi Restaurant
Lizard Placed on Sushi Plate for 'Proof Shot'
Sushi Restaurant Announces Legal Action
In Taiwan, a university student brought his pet lizard into a sushi restaurant without permission, placed it on a sushi plate, and posted a photo as proof. In response, the sushi establishment announced it would take legal action, citing concerns over food safety.
On the 24th, a university in Taiwan issued a statement apologizing for the food safety issues and public discomfort caused by students' inappropriate dining behavior at a popular off-campus restaurant. Earlier, a student identified as A, enrolled at the university, brought his pet lizard to a franchise sushi restaurant. A placed the lizard on a plate in the restaurant, took a photo, and posted it on his social networking service (SNS), sparking public controversy.
The photo posted by A shows the lizard sitting on an empty plate among several sushi plates. Netizens who saw the photo reacted with comments such as "This is very unhygienic," "It ruins my appetite," "This is outright nuisance," and "You shouldn't use plates that others also use like that." In response, A argued, "The lizard's movement is restricted, so it is not a nuisance," which further fueled the controversy.
As the controversy grew, the university stated, "We have always maintained strictness in school operations and place great importance on students' moral education as well as health and safety education." They added, "We will handle news reports and complaints carefully and fairly." The university also said, "After becoming aware of the controversy, A personally contacted the sushi restaurant to discuss how to address the follow-up issues," and "Even after the issue is resolved, we will strengthen students' moral education and promote the importance of health and safety."
The sushi restaurant where the incident occurred said, "To ensure dining safety, we have internally strengthened dishwashing and disinfection," and "We have relevant information about the consumer. We plan to take legal action to hold those responsible accountable."
