Samsung Electronics Builds Red Hat Certified 'CXL Infrastructure'... Industry First Case

Samsung Electronics' In-House Research Facility Established
Supports Rapid Product Development and Customized Design

Samsung Electronics announced on the 25th that it has built the industry's first Compute Express Link (CXL) infrastructure certified by open-source solution company Red Hat. CXL is a next-generation interface designed to efficiently utilize accelerators, DRAM, storage devices, and other components used with the central processing unit (CPU) in high-performance server systems.

With this infrastructure, Samsung Electronics will verify all server components, including CXL-related products and software, at the Samsung Memory Research Center (SMRC) within its Hwaseong campus. SMRC helps customers equipped with Samsung Electronics memory products analyze the optimal combination of hardware and software for their servers and evaluate performance.

Completing CXL product certification internally and immediately proceeding with Red Hat registration procedures enables rapid product development. It also allows for product optimization from the development stage with customers, providing customized solutions. Additionally, customers using certified products can conveniently build reliable systems through Red Hat’s maintenance and support services. Other benefits include guaranteed hardware stability and Linux compatibility assurance.

Based on this infrastructure, Samsung Electronics plans to solidify its technological leadership by introducing various products suitable for the AI era. Since 2022, Samsung has strengthened its partnership with Red Hat, aiming to expand the CXL memory ecosystem and propose new technology standards, providing customer solutions tailored to various user systems.

Earlier, Samsung Electronics participated in the 'Red Hat Summit 2024' held last month in Denver, USA, to lead the CXL ecosystem with Red Hat. At the event, Samsung demonstrated improved performance of a deep learning-based recommendation model by equipping Red Hat’s latest server operating system (OS)-based server with CMM-D (Samsung Electronics CXL Memory Module Device).

Song Taeksang, Executive Vice President of the DRAM Solutions Team at Samsung Electronics Memory Business, said, "Through collaboration with Red Hat, we can provide customers with reliable CXL memory products," adding, "We will lead the development of innovative memory solutions and the advancement of the CXL ecosystem through continuous collaboration between the two companies encompassing both hardware and software."
