The Presidential Office stated that the People Power Party's acceptance on the 24th of the seven standing committee chair positions reserved for the ruling party by the Democratic Party of Korea, completing the organization of the 22nd National Assembly, was made possible by "the ruling party's sincere decision."
A senior official from the Presidential Office told Asia Economy on the same day, "There were various twists and turns," adding, "The organization of the National Assembly was made possible by the sincere decision of People Power Party Floor Leader Choo Kyung-ho and the members, who pledged to 'return the National Assembly to the people and work with a 24-hour commitment for the people's livelihood.'"
The official added, "We hope the 22nd National Assembly will uphold the public's mandate from the general election to cooperate for the people's livelihood."
Earlier, the People Power Party approved at a party meeting the acceptance of seven standing committee chair positions reserved for the ruling party by the Democratic Party of Korea, including Foreign Affairs and Unification, National Defense, Planning and Finance, Political Affairs, Women and Family, Industry, Trade, Energy, Small and Medium Venture Businesses, and Information Committees.
Additionally, the seven standing committee chairs and the ruling party's Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly are scheduled to be elected at this week's plenary session.
Meanwhile, Floor Leader Choo Kyung-ho expressed his intention to resign from his position as the person responsible for the organization negotiations during the party meeting on the same day, but it is reported that there is considerable support within the party for his reappointment.
