"Is This 100,000 Won?" Asked, "Not Sure"... Jagalchi Market Overcharging Controversy

Busan Jagalchi Market Faces Overcharging Controversy
Frozen Salmon and Small Size Jeotbang-eo Priced at 100,000 Won
Netizens Outraged: "Are They Selling Their Conscience?"

Amid ongoing controversies over being charged excessively high prices in markets, a similar issue has recently arisen at Busan Jagalchi Market. A claim was made that after ordering a small portion of sashimi worth 100,000 won, the customer received such a small amount that it could easily be mistaken for a single serving.

On the 24th, a post titled "I think I got completely ripped off at Busan Jagalchi Market" was uploaded on an online community. The author, Mr. A, who visited Busan with his parents, wife, and children, shared a photo saying, "On the last day of the trip, we went to eat sashimi at Jagalchi Market, and these two cost 100,000 won."

In the photo posted by Mr. A, about ten pieces each of frozen salmon and gray mullet are seen on small disposable plates. Ice chunks that have not fully melted are visible on the salmon. Mr. A explained the situation, saying, "I expected some overcharging, but the moment I received these two plates, I felt I was seriously cheated. We bought the sashimi on the first floor and went to a random restaurant on the second floor for the dipping sauce. I felt really sorry, but when I asked the restaurant owner if this amount of sashimi was normally served at that price, he looked incredulous and said, 'I don't know,'”

Mr. A added, "It was a really pleasant trip, but I ended up angry at the end. Still, the spicy fish stew at the second-floor restaurant was delicious. I don’t know how to file a complaint. Is this amount really worth 100,000 won?" he asked for opinions.

Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "It's worse than Sorae Port," "Places like that should be nationally shamed," "People who treat tourists like suckers," "Not even fresh salmon, and 100,000 won is too much," "It's foolish to go even after being warned not to," "The sashimi doesn’t look very fresh either," and "They seem to be selling their conscience."

A netizen Mr. B, who has lived in Busan for a long time, advised, "I hope Mr. A immediately complains to the merchants' association. Recently, many foreign tourists also visit Jagalchi Market, and sometimes you can see Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese people there. Nowadays, the merchants' association sometimes intervenes, so if you complain to them, the issue should be resolved quickly."
