From July... Household rate per ton rises 8.7% from 690 to 750 won
Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province will raise water utility rates starting next month. This is the second rate increase following last year.
Pyeongtaek City announced on the 24th that it will increase water rates for residential, general, and bathhouse use starting with the July billing cycle.
This rate increase follows the revision of the "Pyeongtaek City Water Supply Ordinance" in November 2022. The city previously raised rates once last year and explained that it plans to gradually increase rates over three years through 2025, including this increase.
The city had frozen water rates for more than 10 years since 2012. However, due to the urgent need to replace aging water pipes and improve facilities, as well as to secure investment costs, the city considers the rate increase unavoidable.
With this rate increase, residential water rates will rise by 8.7%, from 690 KRW to 750 KRW per ton. Additionally, general use rates for the first tier (1?100 tons) will increase from 1,180 KRW to 1,290 KRW per ton, and for the second tier (over 101 tons) from 1,670 KRW to 1,830 KRW per ton. Bathhouse rates will increase from 1,290 KRW to 1,410 KRW per ton.
A city official stated, "To reduce the burden on citizens caused by the rate increase, we will raise rates gradually over three years," adding, "We will strive to provide better water administration services."
