This Year’s Gumi Hometown Love Fund Project: 11 Teams Selected
Support for Building Local Activity Base and Nurturing Young Activists
Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province has publicly recruited participants for the 'Gumi Young Energy Project Contest' to support the creative ideas and challenges of young people, and has finally selected a total of 11 youth clubs and organizations.
This project is part of the 2024 Gumi City Hometown Love Fund initiative, designed to solve various youth issues in the local community and promote the social participation of young people.
The Hometown Love Fund initiative utilizes donations made to support one’s hometown. Unlike other local government projects that focus on children or vulnerable groups, Gumi City’s project is significant in that it specifically targets and supports the diverse activities of young people.
A total of 20 youth clubs and organizations participated in the contest. Based on the review by the Youth Policy Committee, 8 clubs with three or more young members were selected as 'Gumi Young Energy Teams' and 3 organizations were selected as 'Gumi Young Energy Plus Teams', making a total of 11 teams.
The selected clubs and organizations will contribute to the development of the local community through various activities in five fields: ▲culture and arts ▲hobbies and education ▲local brand creation ▲employment and entrepreneurship ▲community participation. At the end of the year, a 'Results Sharing Meeting' will be held to share major activities, achievements, areas for improvement, and suggestions among the participating youths.
Mayor Kim Jangho said, "Through this contest, we were able to confirm the great interest of Gumi’s youth in local activities," and added, "We will continue to strengthen support for the diverse and creative activities of young people, making every effort to build a foundation so that young people living in Gumi can realize their dreams without leaving the region."
The first project to be implemented among the selected proposals will be the 'Night Run Festival' organized by the Gumi Running Crew. The event will be held at 6 p.m. on July 21 at the Nakdong River Sports Park and the outdoor water playground.
The event will offer a 5km and 10km running race along the Nakdong River course and a pool party at the outdoor water playground for over 500 young people and citizens of Gumi. It is expected to provide enjoyable cultural content for the youth and enhance the image of Gumi City by building sports infrastructure.
