Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon urged people to avoid the area due to concerns about casualties following a fire at a primary battery factory in Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi Province, on the 24th.
In a post on his social media (SNS) that day, Governor Kim said, "This morning, a large fire broke out at a primary battery manufacturing factory located in Jeongok-ri, Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong City," expressing concern that "due to hazardous chemicals inside and outside the factory, there is a risk of casualties and fire spreading."
He added, "Nearby residents are requested to keep their windows closed and vehicles to take detours."
Earlier that day, at around 10:31 a.m., a fire broke out at a lithium-related primary battery factory in Jeongok-ri, Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong City. It is reported that about 20 factory personnel were unable to evacuate from the second floor of the factory. Among them, the whereabouts of about 10 people are unknown. The factory is a primary battery production facility consisting of 11 buildings.
Upon receiving the report, the fire authorities issued an emergency level 2 alert and are currently extinguishing the fire with 51 pieces of equipment, including tank trucks, and 148 personnel.
