Lifetime Twice as Long, Brightness Three Times Brighter Compared to Existing Models
LG Display has launched an attack on the laptop OLED market with Tandem OLED that enhances performance while reducing power consumption.
LG Display announced on the 24th that it has newly developed the industry's first '13-inch Tandem OLED panel' for laptops and recently started mass production. This is the first time Tandem OLED has been applied to laptop panels.
The Tandem OLED, first commercialized successfully by LG Display in 2019, stacks two layers of red, green, and blue (RGB) organic light-emitting layers to achieve long lifespan and high brightness, offering superior durability and performance compared to conventional single-layer OLED panels. It was initially applied to automotive OLEDs, which have stringent quality standards.
The Tandem OLED for laptops has twice the lifespan and three times the brightness of existing OLED panels. It reduces power consumption by up to 40%. It is suitable not only for general laptops but also for high-performance IT devices such as artificial intelligence (AI) laptops.
The 13-inch Tandem OLED panel, whose mass production LG Display has started, is approximately 40% thinner and 28% lighter than existing laptop OLEDs through component design and structural improvements. This enhances portability with a sleek design.
It also features WQXGA+ (2880x1800) high resolution and accurate color expression that meets 100% of the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) standard color gamut DCI-P3, clearly displaying high-definition content. It also meets the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) 'DisplayHDR True Black 500' standard. HDR is a technology that makes the screen as close as possible to what the eye sees.
Jang Jae-won, Vice President and Head of Medium-sized Product Planning at LG Display, said, "Based on the unique strengths of Tandem OLED such as long lifespan, high brightness, and low power consumption, we will provide differentiated customer value," adding, "We will continue to strengthen the competitiveness of OLED products for IT."
