"Full Disclosure Needed on Pressure to Interfere with Investigation of Line-of-Duty Death Case"
The Democratic Party of Korea announced on the 22nd that it will "definitely process the 'Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act,' which was passed after a legislative hearing solely by the opposition party in the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, within the June extraordinary session of the National Assembly."
Lee Hae-sik, the chief spokesperson, said in a briefing that "since a legislative hearing was held and the bill was passed in the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, the special prosecutor must reveal the full extent of the investigation obstruction in the Chae Sang-byeong line-of-duty death case."
He added, "We will expose to the public who the shameless liars and deceivers are that have mocked the people with despicable lies and deception, causing the bereaved families to suffer deeply over the past year."
In the legislative hearing held the previous day, Lee criticized the key figures suspected of obstructing the investigation into the Chae Sang-byeong line-of-duty death case for refusing to take the witness oath and answer questions, saying, "Although indirect, it is tantamount to confessing 'guilt' themselves."
He said, "There was testimony that the president was directly involved and that the presidential office exerted pressure. Now it must be revealed through investigation," adding, "They can no longer run away. Even if they try to refuse, the truth of the case will come to light as clearly as daylight."
