Anthropic AI Model Released the Day After Announcement
OpenAI, the developer of the AI chatbot ChatGPT, announced on the 21st (local time) that it has acquired Rockset, a data search and analysis specialist company.
Rockset, founded by former Facebook employees, is a startup that has provided services supporting various corporate clients across different fields by indexing vast amounts of data according to their needs to make it easily searchable. Rockset raised a total of $105 million (approximately 146 billion KRW) to date, including funds from investment firms such as Greylock and Sequoia in August last year.
OpenAI expressed confidence that this acquisition of Rockset will strengthen its search infrastructure and make AI more useful. OpenAI explained, "AI offers an opportunity to revolutionize the way people and organizations utilize data. This is why we acquired Rockset, a leader in providing world-class data search capabilities and real-time analysis."
Brad Lightcap, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of OpenAI, said, "Rockset's infrastructure helps companies transform their data into actionable intelligence. We are excited to integrate this infrastructure into OpenAI products and offer it to our customers."
OpenAI did not disclose the acquisition amount or specific contract terms.
A company spokesperson stated that this deal is the first case where OpenAI has fully integrated both the technology and employees of an acquired company.
Bloomberg reported on OpenAI's acquisition of Rockset, stating, "OpenAI is fiercely competing with rivals such as Anthropic and Alphabet's Google to build the most advanced AI models and turn them into attractive services for enterprises."
Anthropic, considered a major competitor of OpenAI, announced its latest AI model, 'Claude 3.5 Sonnet,' the day before, claiming that this model possesses the industry's strongest performance.
