Education Office Consistently Shows Lukewarm Attitude
A female teacher at a middle school in Daejeon has been reported for having inappropriate relationships with three female students who were her former pupils, and the education authorities have confirmed that they have requested a police investigation.
On the 21st, the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education stated that they received a complaint that teacher A (in her 20s) had continuously sent inappropriate letters and text messages to her former student B, urging to meet, and they have been verifying the facts while also requesting a police investigation.
On the same day, TJB Daejeon Broadcasting reported on teacher A, who had been in a relationship with her third-year middle school student B since September of last year. A wrote a handwritten letter to the victim saying, "I know people won’t think it’s good for us to be together. Would it have been better to delay saying 'I love you' or asking to date a little longer?" and "It can’t be explained without saying I love you. Thank you for appearing in my life, I love you very much." This letter was disclosed through B’s parents.
B’s family claimed that A had physical contact with their daughter. They appealed, saying, "They held hands in the car and kissed. We also understand that it went beyond that." When the victim’s family initially tried to report this to the school, A promised to stop the relationship but suddenly changed her attitude, saying, "Don’t you think B’s condition will get worse if she doesn’t meet me?" according to the victim’s side.
The victim’s side stated that the Metropolitan Office of Education handled the case with a lukewarm attitude, saying, "The teacher was also confused and needed time to stabilize, so please wait," despite knowing the facts. In response, the education office claimed, "Our internal investigation found that the teacher denied the relationship and it did not appear to be more than a close teacher-student relationship, so no special measures were taken."
A is currently transferred to another school and is working normally as a homeroom teacher. After the controversy arose, she took sick leave and has not been attending work. Local media also reported that A had previously had inappropriate relationships with two other students.
