On the 21st, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon attended the Local Content Festa and stated, "We will expand coexistence and win-win administration for balanced national development through local policies that reflect the strengths and characteristics of each region."
Mayor Oh delivered the keynote speech on the theme of 'Successful Cases of Local Content' at the opening ceremony of the '2024 Local Content Festa' held at KINTEX in Goyang City that morning.

At the event, Mayor Oh emphasized the importance of local content by mentioning the utilization of local policies, saying, "Seoul also relocated the content from the Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo last year to Ttukseom Hangang Park and held an international garden expo, which attracted 1 million visitors in just one week and currently has 3 million visitors." He then introduced representative win-win projects promoted by Seoul for regional development, including 'Next Local,' where Seoul youth expand local jobs and revitalize depressed communities through startups utilizing local resources; the 'Direct Transaction Market' held at famous Seoul spots; and Myeongdong's 'Local Tourism Antenna Shop Tripzip,' which introduces key tourism content to encourage Seoul visitors to explore local areas.
Mayor Oh, nicknamed by citizens as the 'Million Seller Mayor,' evaluated, "With various policies attracting over 1 million participants such as the International Garden Expo and Wrist Doctor 9988, and with 1.7 million visitors last year, the Book Reading Seoul Plaza was selected as the most successful policy by Seoul citizens. We thought it would be mutually beneficial to sell local specialties at direct transaction markets during Seoul's representative events and festivals, and it has truly achieved great results." In fact, about 370,000 people visited the direct transaction markets last year, which involved 1,986 farms and generated sales of 3.5 billion KRW. This year, the plan is to significantly increase the scale and frequency of the direct transaction markets and make them permanent throughout the year.
He also announced Seoul's win-win circular city creation project called 'Gold City.' Mayor Oh explained, "It is truly a 'win-win-win policy' that provides practical help to regions facing concerns of local extinction and to citizens burdened by high housing and living costs in Seoul, while offering vacant houses previously occupied by retirees to young people delaying marriage due to housing burdens, thereby addressing the low birthrate problem."
Earlier, in November last year, Seoul signed a Gold City agreement with Samcheok City in Gangwon Province, a win-win housing policy model between Seoul and local areas. SH Corporation is building about 2,700 apartments and detached houses in Samcheok to sell and rent to Seoul citizens. Currently, other local cities such as Gangwon Province, Chungnam, Chungbuk, and Jeonnam are also showing great interest.
