Rapper Sleepy (40, real name Kim Sung-won)'s former agency filed a lawsuit claiming damages for "breach of exclusive contract," but lost again in the appellate court.
The Civil Division 15 of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judges Yoon Kang-yeol, Jung Hyun-kyung, Song Young-bok) upheld the original ruling on the 21st, which dismissed TS Entertainment's claim for damages worth approximately 280 million KRW against Sleepy.
The court stated, "The defendant's appearance fees were received as compensation after the exclusive contract ended and are not subject to distribution," and added, "The claim for damages due to contract breach and termination of the exclusive contract cannot be accepted because the termination was based on the court's mediation."
TS Entertainment filed the lawsuit in 2019, alleging that Sleepy concealed part of his broadcast appearance fees and advertising income from social media promotions from the agency, claiming 280 million KRW. They lost in the first trial in January 2021.
However, Sleepy filed a damages lawsuit against TS Entertainment, claiming unpaid contract fees and unsettled broadcast appearance fees. In the first trial in 2022, the court ruled that TS Entertainment must pay Sleepy 200 million KRW.
Meanwhile, Sleepy debuted in 2008 as part of the hip-hop duo Untouchable. He began solo activities in 2015 and gained recognition through appearances on variety shows.
