Yongin City Conducts On-Site Inspection to Prevent Heatwave Disasters

Support for Cooling Equipment, Distribution of Protective Items for the Elderly

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 21st that it will conduct on-site inspections and provide related supplies to prevent socially vulnerable groups from suffering damage due to the early heatwave.

The city will monitor the heatwave response status of 62 cooling shelters (senior centers) in the area until the 26th and conduct a full survey of safety management at social welfare facilities for disaster and accident preparedness by the end of this month. The survey will check the operation status of air conditioners in the cooling shelters and provide education on heatwave response guidelines. Facility conditions will be inspected at least once a week, and management logs will be maintained and kept on site.

Support will also be provided to elderly people who make a living by collecting waste paper even during the summer heatwave. The city plans to complete the distribution of protective items such as cooling vests and cool arm sleeves to the elderly within this month.

A city official said, "We are preparing various measures to ensure that socially vulnerable groups living in environments vulnerable to heatwaves do not suffer damage," adding, "We are building cooperative relationships with community members to prevent situations where neighbors in need do not receive welfare benefits."
