KT to Begin Organizational Restructuring Next Month... Focus on Media and AI

According to the telecommunications industry on the 21st, KT is preparing an irregular restructuring just seven months after the reorganization in November last year. It is reported that this is not a large-scale restructuring but rather a level where some departments are integrated and reorganized.

The keyword for this organizational restructuring is expected to be strengthening business in the media and AI sectors.

The Media Platform Business Division will be reorganized into a comprehensive media business organization, expanding cooperative projects with media-affiliated subsidiaries such as Skylife, Studio Gini, Millie's Library, and Storywiz.

KT has signed a strategic partnership with Microsoft and declared cooperation in AI and cloud fields. As they plan to reveal specific business plans in September, discussions are also underway regarding the role coordination of AI-related departments such as the AI Research Institute, AI2XLab, and AI Tech Lab.

KT plans to hold a meeting on the 27th with the presidents of its affiliates to find ways to maximize synergy with the headquarters.

Meanwhile, there are expectations that labor-management negotiations will take place within next month.

KT traditionally holds labor-management negotiations around late August to early September. However, with this year's schedule expected to be earlier than usual, concerns have been raised within KT about possible workforce restructuring, including job reassignments.

At the regular shareholders' meeting held in March, KT CEO Kim Young-seop drew a line by stating, "There will be no artificial large-scale restructuring." However, he also said, "Conducting normal and reasonable restructuring according to procedure is the basic management of a company," leading industry observers to believe that the possibility of workforce reduction remains.
