Accepted into Graduate Program in Science Journalism Master's
Graduated Top of Class at Sungkyunkwan University This Year After 13 Years

Actress Gu Hye-sun (39) announced her acceptance into the graduate school of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

On the 20th, Gu Hye-sun posted on her Instagram, "Just woke up dazed... I got accepted into the KAIST Graduate School of Science Journalism's Master of Engineering program," along with a photo of her acceptance certificate. She uploaded photos showing a dazed expression, as if she couldn't believe she had been accepted, looking half-awake.


Born in 1984, Gu Hye-sun entered the entertainment industry in 2002 as a CF model. She gained recognition by appearing in the MBC sitcom "Nonstop 5" in 2004 and rose to stardom by playing the role of Geum Jan-di in the KBS drama "Boys Over Flowers" (2009).


In 2011, she enrolled as a late-entry student majoring in Film Studies at the College of Arts, Sungkyunkwan University, and graduated at the top of her class in February after 13 years. At that time, her GPA was 4.27 out of a perfect 4.5.


Gu Hye-sun took a leave of absence to balance her studies and acting career but returned to school in 2020 to focus solely on her studies, achieving excellent results. Upon revealing her top graduation status, she shared on Instagram, "I am happy to write this post as I have achieved my goal of graduating with Summa Cum Laude honors."

The KAIST Graduate School of Science Journalism aims to pioneer the interdisciplinary field combining science, technology, and journalism, nurturing talents who will lead Korea's future and produce outstanding research achievements. It focuses on training experts in future strategic planning and science-society communication.


Gu Hye-sun is also an author who has published essay collections such as "I Am Your Pet," novels like "Tears Are Heart-Shaped," and "Peach" Tree, and is active in various fields including film directing, composing, and painting.


Meanwhile, KAIST, where Gu Hye-sun will pursue her master's degree, recently made headlines by appointing G-Dragon (36, real name Kwon Ji-yong), formerly of the group Big Bang, as a special professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.


KAIST invited G-Dragon as a special professor with the aim of integrating the latest science and technology into K-content and the cultural industry. His appointment period is from the 4th of this month until June 2026, lasting two years.
