Gwangjin-gu Conducts Intensive Disinfection at 43 Vulnerable Sites Including Children's Parks During Summer

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will conduct intensive pest control focused on children's parks, which are vulnerable to pest infestations, to prepare for the surge in sanitary pests during the summer season.

The early onset of heat has accelerated the appearance of sanitary pests. In response, the district has launched proactive pest control measures to prevent infectious diseases caused by pests and to protect residents from harm. Systematic pest control and disinfection will be carried out from June to July, the summer season, tailored to the characteristics of each pest such as mosquitoes, cockroaches, and flies.

The target areas include 43 parks within the district. The Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center's pest control task force will be divided into three teams to disinfect 33 children's parks and 10 small parks. Special attention will be given to areas where insects gather densely, such as sewage drains and collection wells.

For mosquito control, eco-friendly larvicides will be applied inside sewage drains and septic tanks. These include U-grade products, which are classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as having the highest safety level. Additionally, disinfectants will be sprayed on puddles throughout the parks to preemptively eliminate environments where larvae can thrive.

Furthermore, bait poison will be installed to control cockroaches. Disinfectants will be sprayed in septic tanks, manholes, water meters, and sewage drains to reduce their population. In cases of complaints about Oriental midges or lovebugs, high-pressure water trucks will be deployed, and chemical pest control will be combined to minimize inconvenience to residents.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, stated, “With climate change increasing the activity of sanitary pests, the importance of preemptive pest control is greater than ever. We will do our utmost to establish a thorough and seamless pest control system to create a safe and pleasant environment.”
