Creation of Pohang Homibando National Marine Ecological Park... Budget of 130 Billion Won Invested Homiban Peninsula Scenery

Homigot Peninsula is a tourist hub featuring a trail along the East Sea coastline and is home to Homigot, where the sun rises first in Korea. It is also a habitat for marine protected species such as seabirds and sea turtles. The peninsula is recognized for its academic and economic importance based on its abundant marine ecological resources.

According to the revised project plan submitted by Gyeongsangbuk-do, if the preliminary feasibility study passes, a budget of 129.7 billion KRW will be invested by 2028 to develop the Homigot Peninsula area into a National Marine Ecological Park, combining 78.1 billion KRW in national funds and 51.6 billion KRW in local funds. The Homigot National Marine Ecological Park will include the Homigot Conservation Center, a deep-sea exploration center, and the Sea Salmon Waterway Garden.

In line with the National Marine Ecological Park development project, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to expand the marine protected area to 71.77 square kilometers and integrate the management of marine protected areas along the East Coast centered on Homigot Peninsula. The ministry expressed expectations that "the establishment of the Homigot National Marine Ecological Park will not only drive economic revitalization in the Gyeongbuk region but also provide a new eco-friendly leisure space, enriching the lives of the people."
