A male teacher in his 30s who sexually assaulted 11 male middle school students was sentenced to 10 years in prison, and the prosecution has appealed.

On the 20th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office Trial Division (Chief Prosecutor Jeong Young-joo) announced that it had appealed the first trial verdict against Mr. A (33), who was indicted on charges including acts similar to sexual assault under the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Abuse.

The prosecution stated, "The defendant committed sexual crimes by abusing his superior position over the students, causing irreversible mental suffering to the youth," and added, "Considering that the victims want strict punishment for the defendant and the period and method of the crimes, the risk of reoffending is recognized."

Mr. A was arrested and indicted on charges of forcing 11 male students aged between 14 and 15 to engage in acts similar to sexual assault and sexually molesting them while working as a contract teacher at a middle school in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, from November 2019 to October last year.

On the 18th, the court sentenced Mr. A to 10 years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to complete 40 hours each of sexual violence treatment and child abuse treatment programs, three years of information disclosure and notification, and a 10-year employment restriction at institutions related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities. However, the prosecution's request for an electronic monitoring order was dismissed due to insufficient evidence of the risk of reoffending.
