SK Ecoplant Conducts 'Heat-Related Illness Prevention Campaign' to Prepare for Heatwave

SK ecoplant announced on the 20th that it will conduct the "Heat-related Illness Prevention Execution Strengthening Campaign" from this month until August.

This campaign follows the Ministry of Employment and Labor's special response guidelines for heatwave and heavy rain safety management, and is a program designed to help workers familiarize themselves with heat-related illness prevention rules and prepare themselves accordingly.

SK ecoplant conducts new and regular safety and health training at its sites, and separately provides daily education on heat-related illness prevention rules. Prevention rule posters are placed in break rooms, cafeterias, and shower rooms for easy access by members. They are also displayed in English, Chinese, and Vietnamese for multinational workers.

A manual containing detailed measures before and after work during heatwaves was also shared. Weather information is provided to workers before work, and a flexible working system is implemented according to the heatwave stage. During work, workers manage their health by checking their symptoms of heat-related illness using a self-assessment checklist. Functional protective gear (such as ice vests and helmet ice packs) is provided especially to outdoor workers vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.

The site-specific campaign "Beating the Heat" is also conducted. Beating the Heat is a campaign where heat-related illness prevention activities are planned and operated on-site, considering the characteristics of each site. Excellent cases are selected based on member participation and effectiveness, and beverage trucks will be delivered to the sites as rewards.

Risk work improvement activities tailored to the characteristics of each site are also underway. Each site independently selects accident types that may occur during the hot summer and rainy season as "core themes" and carries out inspections and improvement activities accordingly.

Meanwhile, Im Jae-wook, CSO (Chief Safety Officer) of SK ecoplant, visited the new construction site of the Global R&PD Center located in Songdo on the 11th to inspect workplace safety management and urged compliance with heat-related illness prevention activities. Afterwards, a meeting was held with safety and health officers to identify on-site difficulties.

An SK ecoplant official said, "We plan to expand the excellent cases discovered through last year's campaign to sites with similar working environments," adding, "We will continue to focus on planning safety and health programs that activate heat-related illness prevention activities and risk work improvement activities tailored to site characteristics."
