Samsung Biologics has embarked on an organizational culture innovation to achieve its vision of becoming a '2030 Global Top-Tier Bio Company.' This effort is particularly meaningful as it emphasizes cooperation with the labor union established last year.
On the 20th, Samsung Biologics held an organizational culture proclamation ceremony and announced that labor and management pledged to work together in harmony to create a global organizational culture by practicing 'Respect, Communication, and Change' based on a sense of mission toward their work.
Named the 'Samsung Biologics Way,' the proclaimed organizational culture vision conveys the message of "building a global organizational culture that realizes the value of life by enhancing the dignity of work through a sense of mission to save human lives and through respect, communication, and change." This reflects the judgment that, in addition to growth through business expansion since its establishment in 2011, establishing a unique organizational culture is essential to further enhance corporate competitiveness.
To derive the message and tasks for this vision, Samsung Biologics labor and management jointly conducted a task force over the past three months, objectively listening to opinions not only from employees but also from external experts. Surveys, workshops, and focus group interviews (FGI) were conducted with hundreds of employees to gather diverse opinions. Former National Human Rights Commission Chairman Lee Sung-ho and others were invited as external advisory members to provide objective and balanced perspectives on the direction of the organizational culture.
Labor and management plan to cooperate mutually to implement the behavioral principles and execution tasks established with key keywords such as mission, respect, communication, change, and global. The labor union also agreed through this proclamation ceremony that organizational culture innovation is necessary for the company's sustainable growth.
Samsung Biologics is also conducting activities to strengthen labor-management win-win cooperation. Recently, labor and management visited exemplary workplaces with excellent labor-management relations for benchmarking and are striving to build a mutually beneficial labor-management culture. Additionally, both labor and management plan to continuously participate in external professional seminars and training courses to strengthen labor-management relations capabilities, such as jointly taking the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) specialized course organized by the Korea Employment and Labor Education Institute.
Through these efforts, labor and management plan to jointly promote social contribution activities and carry out campaigns such as the 'Back to Basic' campaign to spread a culture of mutual respect.
John Rim, CEO of Samsung Biologics, said, “The proclamation of the 'Samsung Biologics Way' is the first step toward organizational culture innovation, and through continuous and repetitive practice, we will build a unique organizational culture exclusive to Samsung Biologics.” He added, “We will do our best to ensure that employees can immerse themselves in their work and feel the meaning, value, and fulfillment of their company life.”
