The Social and Urban Committee of the Seo-gu Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City conducted an on-site visit during the 1st regular session of the 322nd meeting.
On the 20th, the committee members announced that they inspected the ground subsidence site at the apartment parking lot in Geumho-dong and the status of the mural wall sculpture installation and operation at the retaining wall in Pungam-dong the previous afternoon.
First, at the ground subsidence site in Geumho-dong apartments, they listened to the causes of the subsidence, the damage status, and restoration measures. Then, they moved to the mural installation section at the retaining wall in Pungam-dong to check the progress of the mural project and future management plans.
Jeon Seung-il, chairman of the Social and Urban Committee, stated, "This ground subsidence phenomenon appears to be closely related to the construction of Urban Railway Line 2. Since this is a project promoted by the city, I hope the city thoroughly identifies the problems to ensure no damage to residents and promptly proceeds with restoration and compensation."
He also emphasized, "The Pungam-dong retaining wall mural project is a resident-led initiative with a significant budget invested, so both the public and private sectors must strive to maintain and manage it to prevent it from becoming ineffective."
