Eunpyeong-gu, Recruiting Participants for the 5th Youth eSports Tournament

Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) is recruiting participants for the ‘2024 5th Eunpyeong-gu Youth eSports Tournament’ until July 19 to support youth leisure activities and establish a healthy gaming culture.

The tournament game is the popular eSports title ‘League of Legends (LOL)’.

The ‘Youth Division Tournament’ recruits a total of 30 teams, each consisting of 5 youths aged 14 to 19. The ‘Everyone’s Tournament’ is a 1:1 match divided into elementary/middle school and high school/adult divisions, open to anyone aged 12 and above.

Participants can apply through the Galhyeon Youth Center website by July 19. However, if there are many applicants, priority will be given to residents living in the district or those attending school or working within the district.

The schedule for the ‘Youth Division Tournament’ starts with the round of 30 on July 30, with preliminary and main matches held until August 14. The finals will be held on August 24 at the Center Hall on the 1st floor of Lotte Mall Eunpyeong Branch. The ‘Everyone’s Tournament’ matches, including preliminaries and finals, will be held in one day on August 17.

The finals of the ‘Youth Division Tournament’ will feature former professional League of Legends player Captain Jack (Kang Hyung-woo), professional casters, and youth commentators providing live commentary, which will also be broadcast live on the YouTube channel ‘Galhyeon Youth Center’.

Additionally, various prizes, including a gaming monitor as the first-place prize, will be prepared for participants. Various on-site events such as pre-experience booths, LOL mini-games, eSports quizzes, and photo zones will also be held for youth and local residents.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “I hope that youths will create a fair competition and a proper eSports culture through participation in the eSports tournament,” and added, “I hope this will be a festival where friends and families can communicate and enjoy together.”
