On the 19th, Hanwoolwon and others signed a business agreement for the 'Nuclear Clean Hydrogen Production and Utilization Commercialization' project
At the signing ceremony for the "Business Agreement for Nuclear Clean Hydrogen Production and Utilization Commercialization" held on the 19th, the following attended (from left in the photo): Seol Young-sil, Director of Power Technology Research Institute at Korea Electric Power Technology; Jung Yeon-in, Vice Chairman of Doosan Enerbility; Oh Se-cheol, President of Samsung C&T; Jung Dong-hee, Chairman of Korea Power Exchange; Hwang Ju-ho, President of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power; Park Kyung-guk, President of Korea Gas Safety Corporation; Yoon Young-joon, President of Hyundai Construction; and Song Min-ho, Head of Energy Business Division at Korea Gas Technology Corporation.
Hyundai Construction is embarking on the establishment of a hydrogen production base, recognized as a clean fuel that will lead the transition to a carbon-free energy era.
On the 19th, Hyundai Construction signed a "Business Agreement for the Commercialization of Nuclear Clean Hydrogen Production and Utilization" with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), Samsung C&T, Doosan Enerbility, Korea Electric Power Technology, Korea Gas Safety Corporation, Korea Gas Technology Corporation, and the Korea Power Exchange at the KHNP Radiation Health Institute located in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The signing ceremony was held with the attendance of key officials, including Yoon Young-jun, President of Hyundai Construction, and Hwang Ju-ho, President of KHNP.
This agreement was made to successfully carry out a demonstration project for nuclear clean hydrogen production and to promote timely commercialization by uniting companies and public institutions leading domestic carbon neutrality and hydrogen economy activation.
Through this agreement, the parties will actively cooperate in building and operating large-scale commercial plants for nuclear clean hydrogen production, developing domestic and overseas export-oriented nuclear clean hydrogen production business models, and establishing a business foundation for domestic clean hydrogen production and utilization.
The "Renewable Energy Harmonized Carbon-Free Power-Linked Low-Temperature Water Electrolysis Hydrogen Production and Operation Demonstration Project," led by KHNP, is part of the first energy technology development project of 2024 supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. It is being promoted to demonstrate the first domestic water electrolysis hydrogen production plant using nuclear power and to stably produce large-scale hydrogen in the future.
Based on a 10MW-class low-temperature water electrolysis system, infrastructure capable of producing, storing, and shipping more than 4 tons of clean hydrogen per day is planned to be established by 2027. Hyundai Construction is responsible for the design and construction of shared facilities for nuclear-linked power systems, hydraulic supply, compressed air, and nitrogen supply.
By participating in this project, Hyundai Construction plans to secure design competitiveness for hydrogen production plants linked with nuclear power, preempt the domestic and international "nuclear power-hydrogen production package" design, procurement, and construction (EPC) market, and further solidify its leading position in the transition to a hydrogen society.
