Over 6,000 Yaba Tablets Seized in Thai Postal Shipment
This year’s first half 'Drug Detection King' was awarded to the drug detection dog 'Karen,' who detected about 6,000 yaba tablets smuggled through the mail.
On the 19th, the Incheon Airport Customs Headquarters of the Korea Customs Service announced that Karen, the drug detection dog with the best performance among drug detection dogs from January to May this year, was awarded the day before.
Karen, a Labrador Retriever, detected approximately 6,000 yaba tablets (a drug mixed with hallucinogenic substances such as methamphetamine, caffeine, and codeine) hidden in health supplements imported from Thailand by mail, without prior information. Including this, it is explained that Karen contributed to blocking drugs worth about 310 million KRW from January to May this year.
Meanwhile, currently, a total of 22 drug detection dogs, including 18 Labrador Retrievers and 4 Springer Spaniels, are active at Incheon Airport Customs. They detected about 11% (62 cases) of the total 567 drug cases seized by Incheon Airport Customs last year.
Incheon Airport Customs plans to continue supporting the working environment of detection dogs to strengthen drug control.
