Gyeonggi-do Introduces International Safety and Health Standard Certification to Vocational Rehabilitation Facilities for the Disabled... First Nationwide

Gyeonggi Province is introducing the 'ISO45001 International Standard' certification to vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled for the first time in Korea. ISO45001 is an international standard certification for safety and health management systems aimed at preventing industrial accidents and maintaining an optimal working environment.

Excluding the 21 facilities that have already received the ISO45001 international standard certification, Gyeonggi Province plans to obtain certification for 157 facilities by the end of August and held an ISO45001 international standard certification awarding ceremony on the 19th at the Bucheon Disabled Vocational Rehabilitation Facility.

The Bucheon Disabled Vocational Rehabilitation Facility is the first workplace among the 157 facilities to receive the certification. Gyeonggi Province is investing a budget of 950 million KRW in this project.

The international standard certification process involves private specialized organizations visiting the facilities to conduct customized consulting for each facility, identifying risk factors related to production activities, analyzing the level of risk, and developing safety manuals, safety and health work procedures, and guidelines tailored to each facility's environment.

Gyeonggi Province explained that this project was promoted to support the prevention of industrial accidents and the safety and health foundation for disabled people and workers within vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled.

Heo Seung-beom, Director of Welfare at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through this ISO45001 international standard certification, a safety and health management system will be established in vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled, helping to prevent industrial accidents among disabled users and workers," adding, "We will strive to ensure that disabled people and workers can work in a safer environment."
