Collaboration Between Department of Advertising and Public Relations and Local Government: Linked Course 'Understanding Media Literacy'
The Department of Advertising and Public Relations at Tongmyong University (President: Jeon Ho-hwan) and the Busan Audience Media Center of the Korea Press Foundation (Director: Yang Hongseok) held the "6th Public Service Advertisement Contest - Awakening at Twenty, Voices at Twenty" on the 18th.
The event, hosted by Professor Lee Jeonggi of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations, was attended by Director Yang Hongseok of the Busan Audience Media Center, as well as Professors Lee Yongjae and Hwang Unyeom from Tongmyong University's Department of Advertising and Public Relations, who served as judges. Bae Byeonggu, a senior member of the Busan Audience Media Center, participated as a mentor in the planning and production process of the public service advertisements, enhancing the quality of the works.
The grand prize of this contest went to students Kwon Yejin, Kim Dain, Park Jeongjun, and Seo Yebin, who presented a public service advertisement aimed at eradicating child and youth prostitution. The excellence award was given to students Bang Mijin, Jeong Seongo, and Kim Dongyeong, who presented a public service advertisement raising awareness about the infringement of teachers' rights. The two teams that received the grand prize and the excellence award were awarded by the Director of the Busan Audience Media Center.
The merit awards went to students Lee Eunjung, Eom Jonghyeon, and Jo Dayoung, who presented a public service advertisement for improving awareness of emotional abuse against children, and to Seo Chiyong, Kim Dongyun, and Ju Haewon, who presented a public service advertisement for suicide prevention among isolated young single-person households. The two teams that received the merit awards were awarded by the head of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations at Tongmyong University.
The public service advertisements produced by students of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations at Tongmyong University will be made available to the public through the department's website.
This contest, which presents creative works every year, has been conducted for six years as part of the jointly operated major course "Understanding Deariteracy" (instructor: Lee Jeonggi) by the two institutions. This is an industry-academic cooperation class aimed at enhancing overall media literacy skills, including media theory, media criticism, media planning, and production.
As a result of five years of this course, a thesis titled "A Study on the Effectiveness of a Regionally Centered Industry-Academic Cooperation Media Literacy Program: Focusing on the Industry-Academic Cooperation Course between the Busan Audience Media Center and the Department of Advertising and Public Relations at Tongmyong University" was published in February.
