A Child Who Defecated in the Heart of 'Clean Nature' Jeju Island... Chinese Tourist Family Just Watched

Boy Lowers Pants and Defecates Near Street Trees
Women Appearing to Be Companions Stand Still and Watch
Netizens Shocked by the Unprecedented Scene

Photos and videos of a Chinese tourist defecating in the middle of Jeju city have been posted online. On the 18th, a post titled "Chinese people are really too much. Please make sure to see this" was uploaded on a local mom cafe in Jeju. The author, Mr. A, shared photos along with the comment, "It's somewhat acceptable that Chinese tourists come to Jeju for travel, but having a child defecate on the streets of another country is unacceptable. As a local resident, I was so angry that I reported it to the police."

In the photos shared by Mr. A, a boy is squatting next to a roadside tree with his pants down, defecating. Next to him stands a woman, presumably his mother, and other companions quietly. Mr. A expressed his outrage, saying, "What on earth are they thinking? Our people clean up even dog poop with bags, but human feces? Why do they dirty another country?"

He continued, "They cross the crosswalk in groups as if the light is green even when it’s red. I don’t know where common sense ends," and added, "If you see such Chinese tourists, let’s all report them together." He also lamented, "There are many strange people these days, so don’t engage with them dangerously. Just keep reporting by text or phone calls; maybe then etiquette warning signs will be posted."

A netizen who witnessed the situation firsthand said, "It was the first time I saw such a scene in my life, so I was stunned for a while and then took a video. They were all Chinese, and when I spoke in English because I didn’t understand Chinese, they ignored me," and uploaded the video. Netizens who saw the video reacted with disbelief, saying, "Even neighborhood dogs’ poop is picked up with bags. Is that even a person?", "I only heard about China, but seeing it in reality is even more shocking," "Is defecating on the street normal in that country?", "This is not even about dogs; what on earth is going on?"

The disorderly behavior of Chinese tourists has caused controversy in the international community multiple times. In 2015, in Thailand and Hong Kong, Chinese tourists caused scandals by defecating on the streets and washing their feet in fountains. As a result, Chinese authorities publicly disclosed the real names of four Chinese individuals involved and announced travel restrictions abroad. In March of last year, complaints poured in from Hong Kong about Chinese tourists loudly chatting on the streets and eating in public restrooms. Consequently, the Hong Kong Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism considered suspending some group tours by Chinese travel agencies.

Meanwhile, under South Korean law, defecating or urinating in public places can be punished under the Minor Offenses Act. Article 3 of the Minor Offenses Act states that "Anyone who spits or defecates/urinates recklessly on streets, parks, or other places where many people gather or pass by may be fined up to 100,000 won or detained."
