Kolon's 66th Korea Open Revival Challenge
Back-to-Back Champion in 2008 and 2009
Shared 2nd Place at KPGA Championship Two Weeks Ago Demonstrates Strength
Baesangmun was a representative player of Korean men's golf.
He achieved a total of 9 wins on the Korean Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Tour. He accumulated 14 professional wins in total, including 3 wins on the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO) and 2 wins on the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Tour in the United States. He was the money leader on the KPGA Tour in 2008 and 2009, and on the JGTO in 2011. In 2012, he advanced to the "dream stage," the PGA Tour, and reached the top twice within three seasons. However, since his military service in 2017, he has not produced notable results. He is currently trying to make a comeback after losing his PGA Tour card.
Baesangmun dreams of a revival at the national title event, the Kolon 66th Korean Open. The tournament will open on the 20th at Woojeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan, Chungnam (par 71, 7,326 yards) and will enter four days of fierce competition. The event is jointly hosted by the Korea Golf Association (KGA) and the Asian Tour. A total of 144 players will participate. The total prize money is 1.4 billion KRW, with 500 million KRW awarded to the winner. The champion and runner-up will earn the right to participate in this year’s final major, The Open Championship.
Baesangmun is a strong contender at the Korean Open. He won the Korean Open consecutively in 2008 and 2009. His condition is not bad. Two weeks ago, he demonstrated his resilience by finishing tied for second at the major KPGA Championship. In addition, former champions such as Jang Igeun, Kim Seunghyuk, Choi Mincheol, Kim Mingyu, Lee Junseok (Australia), and Han Seungsu (United States) will compete. Major players from the Japan and Asian Tours will also participate in large numbers to determine the best player in Asia.
