Last year, 56 night markets nationwide were integrated and promoted under the brand name ‘Byeolbyeol Night Market.’ A representative from the Small Enterprise and Market Service explained, “By offering a variety of attractions and food, sales at traditional markets increased, and customer satisfaction also improved,” adding, “The night market was evaluated as a new breakthrough for somewhat stagnant traditional markets.”

This year, the Byeolbyeol Night Market will be expanded to over 100 locations. Participating markets are traditional markets involved in the Small Enterprise and Market Service’s specialized market development project.

The Small Enterprise and Market Service plans to select night markets that can be enjoyed by people in their 20s and 30s, foreigners, and others, and will promote them online by producing promotional videos using influencers and creating night market maps. Additionally, it will collaborate with local governments and related organizations to support the revitalization of night markets.

In the case of Taean County’s ‘Taean Seobu Market,’ a seafood grilling market will be operated every Friday and Saturday until November under the slogan ‘Grilling the Blue West Sea.’ A shared kitchen is also operated to improve hygiene and convenience for users.

Daejeon City’s ‘Munchang Traditional Market’ plans to operate the ‘Champion Night Market’ 10 times until October, utilizing its location near professional baseball, volleyball, and other sports stadiums. Various food and performances will be provided so that spectators can naturally visit and enjoy the market after sports games.

Detailed event schedules for each market can be confirmed by contacting the merchants’ association.

Park Seonghyo, director of the Small Enterprise and Market Service, said, “Night markets are expected to inject new vitality into the sluggish domestic market and traditional markets, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.”
