Midterm of the 8th Elected Term: 'Jung-gu Policy TOP 10'
2,919 Residents Participated in a 2-Week Online Survey
Walking, Festivals, Childcare Services, and Namsan Height Restriction Easing
The opening of the Namsan Footpath, Jeongdong Night Tour, enhanced pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare services, and the relaxation of Namsan height restrictions were recently identified as the most popular policies among residents of Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gil-seong).
According to Jung-gu on the 19th, in the ‘Jung-gu Policy TOP 10’ survey conducted at the midpoint of the 8th local government term, the opening of the Namsan Footpath was ranked first as the ‘policy that provided the greatest support to residents’ with 1,169 votes. It was followed by Jeongdong Night Tour (1,163 votes), enhanced pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare services (1,071 votes), and the relaxation of Namsan height restrictions (976 votes).
Jung-gu conducted this survey to understand how much its policies have enriched residents’ daily lives and the degree of their impact. The survey, conducted online from the 1st to the 14th of this month, saw participation from 2,919 residents who selected five out of 20 representative projects implemented by Jung-gu over the past two years. The district published the results on its official website on the same day.
The Namsan Footpath, which received the most votes, has been warmly embraced by residents since its opening in April. The entire route from Muhakbong to Namsan is a forest path without stairs or steps, making it easily accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, pregnant women, and the elderly. It connects Daehyeonsan, Geumhosan, and Maebongsan mountains to Namsan in one continuous path, attracting steady foot traffic from residents.
Jung-gu’s flagship festival, Jeongdong Night Tour, also received positive feedback for boosting the pride of local residents living in Jeongdong, the center of modern historical culture. The Jeongdong Night Tour held in May attracted 130,000 visitors, about 30,000 more than last year.
The enhanced pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare services also received high satisfaction. The district increased the childbirth and childcare support funds from the previous amounts of 200,000 KRW for the first child, 1 million KRW for the second, 2 million KRW for the third, 3 million KRW for the fourth, and 5 million KRW for the fifth and beyond, to 1 million KRW, 2 million KRW, 3 million KRW, 5 million KRW, and 10 million KRW respectively starting last year. In February, the first recipient of the 10 million KRW support was recorded.
Policies that will significantly reshape the city, such as the relaxation of Namsan height restrictions, the Yaksu Station area urban public housing complex project (805 votes), and the development of Sindang 10 District and Jungnim-dong 398 site (707 votes), were also chosen by residents.
Other highly rated initiatives included tailored programs supporting single-person households (850 votes), senior citizen transportation subsidies, healthcare centers, Jung-gu Senior Club and total care for seniors (839 votes), and the expansion of customized jobs for residents who want to work in Jung-gu (817 votes). The district plans to award commendations to the staff who implemented the ‘Jung-gu Policy TOP 10’ on the 1st of next month to recognize their efforts.
District Mayor Kim Gil-seong said, “Based on the results of this survey, we will focus on policies that will further enrich residents’ daily lives.”
