Nowon-gu to Promote 2024 Data Activist Training Project
Following Last Year's Positive Response, Data Activist Training to Continue This Year
Free Beginner Course for 40 Participants from July 6 to August 31
Plans to Link with '2024 Youth Big Data Utilization Contest' in the Future
Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced on the 19th that it will promote the <2024 Data Activist Training Project> to support young people’s entrepreneurship and creative activities.
The ‘Data Activist Training Project’ is a program designed to nurture local youth as experts in data utilization in modern society, where big data skills are increasingly important due to accelerated digital transformation, helping them grow into valuable talents for the community.
The training is structured mainly as a beginner course with a lowered barrier to entry so that even non-majors can understand and learn. It includes ▲data analysis curricula such as Python, Numpy, and Pandas, along with ▲project-based practical training to develop hands-on data analysis skills.
The training schedule runs from July 6 to August 31, with 8 hours every Saturday (a total of 64 hours). To ensure smooth training, participants must bring their personal laptops. However, free laptop rental is available for basic livelihood security recipients if needed.
The application period is open until Saturday, June 29, and anyone aged 19 to 39 who resides or is active in Nowon-gu can apply. A total of 40 participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and the training is completely free of charge. For more details, please refer to the notices on the Nowon-gu Office website.
In addition, the district plans to hold the <2024 Youth Big Data Utilization Contest> in October. Last year’s contest produced meaningful results that residents could feel, such as ▲installation of unmanned recycling collection machines based on floating population numbers, ▲improvement plans for the Nowon Youth Cultural Life Card, and ▲a project to collect illegal advertisements. The district expressed high expectations for this year’s contest as well.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Although the demand for data-related personnel continues to increase, the shortage rate of data scientists, data developers, and data analysts is higher than the industry average, so it is important to train personnel accordingly.” He added, “I hope this training will boost youth employment and creative activities.”
