2024 BOK Regional Economy Symposium Held in Busan

The Bank of Korea announced on the 19th that it will hold the BOK Regional Economy Symposium in Busan under the theme "Paradigm Shift in Regional Balanced Development Policy and Development Plans for the Southeast Region."
The BOK Regional Economy Symposium is a forum where opinion leaders from business, academia, and government discuss regional economic issues and explore policy measures. It has been held since last year. Starting this year, it will be held on a regional rotation basis, with Busan hosting for the first time.
At the symposium, participants will discuss the paradigm shift in regional balanced development and exchange views on development plans for the Southeast regional economy. Following a welcome address by Lee Chang-yong, Governor of the Bank of Korea, and congratulatory remarks by Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City, presentations and a comprehensive discussion will take place.
The first session will discuss the paradigm shift in regional balanced development policy and response directions. First, Professor Ma Gang-rae of the Department of Urban Planning and Real Estate at Chung-Ang University will present on "Evaluation of the Change Process and Tasks of Regional Balanced Development Policy." Then, Jeong Min-su, Head of the Regional Research Support Team at the Bank of Korea, will present on "Analysis of Regional Economic Growth Factors and Balanced Development Centered on Hub Cities."
The second session will discuss development plans for the Southeast regional economy. Professor Lee Geun-jae of the Department of Economics at Pusan National University will present on "Dynamic Analysis and Policy Tasks of Industrial Linkages in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) Area," and Nam Ki-chan, Research Fellow at the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, will present on "Spatial Mismatch Unemployment and Development Strategies for the Southeast Regional Labor Market."
Following this, the comprehensive discussion will be moderated by Kim Woong, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Korea, with panelists including Kim Ki-won, Head of the Bank of Korea Busan Branch; Shim Jae-woon, Head of Economic Policy at the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Professor Lee Mi-sook of the Department of Global Business at Changwon National University; Professor Jeong Seong-moon of the Department of Economics at Dong-A University; Joo Soo-hyun, Senior Research Fellow at the Busan Development Institute; and Professor Hong Ji-hoon of the Department of Economics at Pusan National University.
